Judge Richard A. Frye was elected to the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas in November 2004, and re-elected in 2010.
Before taking the bench he was partner at Chester Willcox & Saxbe, LLP, in Columbus. Between 2009-2012 he served as one of the two Commercial Docket judges at this court, assigned by the Chief Justice pursuant to the Temporary Superintendence Rules.
Judge Frye is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, and a Life Member of the Sixth Circuit Judicial Conference. He was chair of the Local Rules Committee for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio for 14 years; president of the Columbus Legal Aid Society in 2003-04; and co-author of Ohio Eminent Domain Practice (1977). Judge Frye chaired the Judges Committee that oversaw design and construction of the new Franklin County Courthouse which opened in 2011. He currently serves on the Ohio Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Case Management and the Ohio Judicial Conference Civil Law and Procedure Committee.
