Drug Court Heather Doughty Alicia Lowe The Family Drug Court was established in 2002 to address parents who have a history of drug or alcohol abuse or addiction and who, because of the abuse/addiction have lost custody or at risk of losing custody of their children. Participants enter a three phase program and their progress is monitored on a regular basis (depending on the phase) by the Court through a therapeutic courtroom environment. The participation in the Family Drug Court can assist parents in obtaining custody of their children more quickly and ensure that the children are returned to safe, sober and stable environments. The Juvenile Drug Court was established in 2005 to address youth who are on probation and have had and are currently having issues with drug use. Youth attend a weekend therapeutic court hearing where there are reports given on the youth's progress in treatment. Youth receive incentives and sanctions based on their progress. |
